I am 17 years old and my parents are planing on purchasing a new home. They have told me I can do what ever I want in my room but i don't know how to start.

I have white furniture that has no style or shape to it at all so i plan on painting it. I also have to work with the bedding i already have. The bedding is dark navy blue. My favourite colour is green so I was thinking of putting up some striped green wallpaper with stripes that go back and forth from light to dark green. Do you think this would look good if i where to paint my furniture and ceiling the dark blue of my bedding?

If you have any other ideas on what I could do with the things I have. Or if you have any neat ideas for my room please share. I also have to do my bathroom with is just down the hall. Should i use the same wallpaper or paint in the bathroom as well?

The bedroom will double as an office as well. It is 11 x 22 so it has room for my desk at the other end. If you have any neat ideas such as painting one wall with black chalk board paint ( my friends idea ) then tell me. If you could also send me links to wall paper samples or paint I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I think this paper or something similar would be quite nice:

I'd use it on 2 walls next to each other and then pick out a colour from it or have the dark blue of your bedding on the other 2.

It has the green and blue so you can tie in other things in your bedroom like bedding, rugs, throws etc.

A couple of these rugs in blue would look quite cool:

I'd try and avoid painting your ceiling dark blue, only because I've had rooms where the ceiling has been painted some crazy colour and after a while it gives you a bit of a headache. Also a dark colour on the ceiling would make the room feel a lot smaller.

    Maybe get something like this:

You could put some of the wallpaper in a few of the spaces and then use the rest for pictures of your friends and family.

  2. I like the idea of green and navy together.  You can even use other shades of blue too (light blue or powder blue) and even tie in white or prints with all of those colors.  Try adding throw pillows or other accessories that tie in the colors as well.

You can do a cork board wall or even half cork board, half dry erase board material (i saw it in a magazine)- so you can write on it and have your friends leave messages and you can hang up posters, pictures, etc on the other side.
