I'm a squad leader for the sousaphones in band. Just in case you don't know a sousaphone is a tuba. But there use to just slacking off and I was hoping to change that this year. Were doing a little better so far but we still don't have the work ethic we should.

Because the sousaphone is so big it often hurts our shoulders and we get tired and crabby a lot quicker than most of the other sections in band. We have already been yelled at for slacking =/

Is there anyway I can motivate them so they can still have fun and get done what we need to get done?

  1. How about getting them together to preform a piece together....just sousaphones....and maybe a few extra instruments (friends) that could perform like a pep band.  Some piece that is fun and rocks!!!  I don't know any off hand....we used to do the "Budweiser theme" for fun.

Once the group made a reputation for itself, where others would say, "Cool....those tubas are kickin!", they might be motivated to find more opportunities to show the strength of the sousaphone.

Hard part:  locating music that allows the tuba to shine.  Good luck!
