Would this kit be sufficient enough to weld a motor onto a bicycle?

Also, can anyone tell me some good sites where I can learn to weld. I have no experience at and do not know any terminology for welding. It would be good if the website had pictures and step by step instructions.

  1. Here are two web site links that will help you to understand welding processes. Also included is a Yahoo Group with a great welding links section.

  2. I never worked with Mapp gas, just oxygen/acetylene, also oxygen/hydrogen.  It requires a LOT of practice and getting the flame just right.

I googled <online welding lessons flame> and got a lot of hits

  3. This kit would probably work, though since this is your first time, you probably want to practice on other (similar) materials (and I'm probably stating the obvious).

However, before you start... I have attached a motor to my bicycle also, and chose to clamp it to the frame in the desired area. That was my first attempt at motorizing my bike, and while it worked, I found many ways it could be improved and have since removed it for re-fabrication. I caution you regarding welding directly to the frame if it is the first attempt. Instead, make a jig or other such bracket that can be moved, shimmed, etc... to get a perfect fit. THEN weld the pieces together in the correct position.
