I have a ps3 that I want to hook up to my little bookshelf surround sound system. They both have the optical audio set up. Right now I have my tv hooked up to the stereo through audio cables so I can have surround sound on my tv. I went into the audio settings on my ps3 and changed it to optical, but I didnt hear no sound. When I changed it back to the tv audio cable setting I could hear sounds. My stereo is pretty old its back from 1999. So does this mean the digital audio port on my stereo doesnt work? Or am I suppose to do something to the stereo that lets it know there is a digital optical audio cable hooked up to it like when I want hear my tv I just turn it to the "video" selector. Am I not suppose to have the stereo hooked up to my tv when I have the optical audio plugged in?

Incase u want to do some research for me, my stereo is a Aiwa, model # CX-NA767

Also if u found a manual that would be great, because I dont have one and I wanna know how to stop the stereo from shutting off by itself when its on video. So when im watching tv the stereo shuts off after a bit if it doesnt get touched.

THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!

  1. Yes you have to tell your receiver that you want it to use a digital input for sound. There is a mapping function to connect the digital input to the function you want it hooked up to. I would suggest you Google your model number and see if you can find a manual for it. It can be pretty confusing to figure out how the more advanced functions work without one.

  2. Is this your Unit?

According to this manual, digital audio is for OUTPUT only, so you really can't connect the PS3.
