I think I've given my 10 month old Syrian hamster a bit too much lettuce and vegetables in the past few days and now I think she's a little sick, i don't know if its diarrhea but her poo is a bit green and smells quite bad! but she's ok, she eats her food and cleans herself just like any other day, but a little moody. I prefer not to take her to the vet because my last hamster died because the vet accidentally gave her too much anesthesia, can anyone tell me some home remedies in order to make her better? thanks!

  1. Trust me she will be fine. back off of the fresh fruits and veggies and give her tummy a chance to bouce back. You can give a hammie that every day, but only after gradually upping the amounts. Its the same as sushi wont kill you and is actually verry good for you, but if you ate a whole bunch for lunch you might feel crappy the next day.

give her nothing but her pellets for about a week then only a little tiny bit of lettuce the next 2 weeks and upp it a little every 2 weeks. If she ever shows those signs again, back off to the previous amount.

If is still dosent go away just back off entirely and substatute with alternative things from the pet store, like yogurt chips, or corn, etc. A hammie lovers wesite can give alot of suggestions of healthy and (spoiling) hammie diets.

    Good luck to you

  2. Just stop feeding it lettuce for a while. It's probably just digusting the lettuce very slowly but just don't over-do with the lettuce. Give it normal hamster food until you see that the poo isn't really green no more. Then you could go back to feeding the hamster some lettuce once again.

  3. Make some camomile tea- they're easy to find herbal tea bags, and a natural cure for diarrhea for most animals- and wait for it to cool, so it needs to be the same, safe temperature as their water, and then attach that in a bottle to the cage, BUT keep her normal water attached too.

Stop giving fruit and veg for now, and provide her dry food, plus some dry toast, which should help them.

  4. You probably went to a regular dog/cat vet, right? You need to go to an exotic vet. Here's a good list: http://www.guinealynx.info/vetlist.html    It's a site for guinea pigs, but they go to exotic vets as well.

I would say cut back on the veggies, then. Are you feeding her quality pellets?

  5. well u should know hamsters get sick if u give veggies etc. i will give u a website for u hamster
