I am looking for a surround sound system, and I know very little about them. As I have begun the search I have noticed that many of them come with a DVD player. This is fine however I use a PS3 to play my DVD's as well as Blu-Ray's. Is there a way to use one of these systems that already comes with the DVD player with the Blu-Ray? Can it also be used when watching TV? If so how? If it helps Here is the system that I am leaning toward

  1. In your price range, you could look on amazon.com and pick out a separate AV receiver, and a set of speakers, and those will be of far better sound and quality that an all in one out of the box package.

For example: Yamaha RX-V363BL 500 Watt 5.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver, $199.95, no tax and free shipping.

Then add: Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System (Set of Six, Black) 226.08, plus about $35 shipping. Total, $461.03. The spare $39 will cover speaker wire, and connection cables, like: $20.38 for ACOUSTIC RESEARCH AP-16100W 100' White 16 Gauge Oxygen-Free Speaker Wire.

There you go. Have a look at the receivers on amazon, and pick out one that fits best into your needs list and budget.

  2. This receiver offers every thing you need. but keep in mind each time you send your video feed through a device you will have distortion. the optimal solution is allow your HDTV to receive the signal directly from the PS3 and use the digital audio out from the TV to the receiver to supply your surround sound. This will also allow you to turn off the surround sound when not needed such as 3am when you up playing and the rest of you house is asleep

  3. not with that system, all you can do is add one more source by using an optical cable for sound and you will have to run the viedo output of your other device to the tv

  4. The only audio system that will work with Blue Ray is a surround tuner that has HDMI output. HDMI out conenctions from the tuner is the only cabling connection that transfers blue ray high definition audio and video signals. RCA, composite or VGA will not transfer the resolution or audio formats.

You can buy just about any name brand with HDMI ( high definition multi interface ) outputs for under $400. Make sure you have a Blue Ray DVD player. This will allow you to receive full digital audio and view 1080p resolution which is pure HD.  Most Blue Rays on the market can be found under $379.00.  PS# decode blue ray formats but your audio system needs upgrading to take advantage of HD audio.
