Okay, I played a very difficult match today. In singles, I played a guy that you could say is not that well of a player. He's like one of those 'dinkers' who can retrieve many many balls, and return them with little or no pace at all, sometimes they'll send back very very random, unreadable balls back into play. Like for example, they hit a slice serve to my backhand, I'd hit a very good backhand, but then he'd run to it and jsut appear to slap at it for his life, and it comes back either very high, full of spin, or it has almost no pace. He's just like an annoying human backboard. I'd say he is such a terrible player, but it's so hard for me to play against people who are like this--just plain bad. We play 8 game pro sets [first to 8 games, win by 2], and I was down 5-7, and I felt like collapsing and crying. But I knew I had to come back, and I did not want to lose, so I finally broke his serve, and ended the near 2 hour match with an ace out wide;the score was: 9-7. I just get so upset playing people like that, it completely throws off my game, I'm an all around aggressive player. It's just so hard for me to get those high balls, too since of my 5'2" height disadvantage, compared to like 5'6" people and up. My game revolves around consistency in power. But mostly power, I mostly just like to play quick points, but I'm not an impatient player. The nerves can really get a hold of me sometimes, and choke me to death. What should I do/practice to be able to easily handle these kinds of players? This is our JV level tennis. hmph.
