The qustion asks why would a three year old want to give a puppy a band aid after it cut its paw? What does that show about the child's thinking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. it shows that....even if a boy doesnt know what has happened....but he has the helping nature which is required by a good human being!!

  2. friendship, he is treating the dog as a friend by being kind

  3. that shows that the child is very kind a genirious and most of all friendship

  4. Caring and concern for the puppy.

  5. The child is associating it to the life he knows - when he cuts his finger, he gets a band-aid - so if the puppy hurts his paw, in the child's mind, he needs a band-aid as well.

  6. It sounds like the child is being logical. They know that when they get a cut they get a band-aid so it only makes sense that you would also put a band-aid on a puppy's cut. Children can be very logical, straight-forward thinkers with their very simple thinking and reasoning. Sometimes I think adults need to be more like kids in their thinking.

  7. children as young as 12 months old can show empathy. empathy is understanding, being aware of, and being sensitive to the feelings, thoughts, and experience of another without actually sharing the feelings or emotions of another

what that child is doing is showing empathy toward the dog. the child is caring about the dog's injury. it shows that the child is developing a sense of being able to recognize others. the child is aware and in tune to the pain that the dog might be feeling. the child is giving the puppy something to help the puppy feel better and starting to associate his/her feelings with others (in this situation, the puppy)

here's a good article on the development of empathy in young children that may help answer your question:

  8. loyalty, kindness

  9. Emotionally, they're demonstrating empathy. Cognitively, they are demonstrating logical thinking through association. Therefore the child needs to learn the exception to the rule ie. band-aids are for people only. In order to do this, the child needs to assimilate this new information, creating modifications to his existing cognitive schemes.

  10. that she/he cares and loves the puppy and that would be really cute so that shows that the baby loves the dog
