Hey guys. A couple of days ago I posted an item on craigslist for 40 bucks. Someone emailed me that they wanted to buy it and they said theyll send the check to my house. Today they sent me a check for 2000 dollars and sent me an email to take what I said for the item and send the rest to an address.

What should I do??

  1. I advise you to return the money.

  2. Stop, stop, STOP!

This is a VERY common scam right now.  The "buyer" sends a "cashier's check" for an amount over the original purchase price.

Then, they explain, they need you to cash the check and send the remaining amount on to another person to whom they owe money.

By the time you find out that the check is fraudulent, you have already sent the money on to another person and the goods away to the "buyer".

Check the source I am citing below...this is a very dangerous scam and can cost you a lot more than just the cost of the item.

Please proceed with great caution and never, every forward "excess funds"...it's just not true.

    Good luck to you.
