Question:

I need some ideas for decorating a bedroom?

I'm finally moving out of mu college apartment. Most of the stuff that I have now is c**p and I want to get rid of it and start fresh, but I never had new furniture before and don't know where to start. The funny thing is that I'm architect and I design stuff for people on the daily basis and my bosses and my clients love my ideas, but when it comes to myself I have a designer's block. Plus I work on high end projects and I can't afford that stuff for myself yet

It is a medium sized bedroom with plenty of natural light painted white (My lease doesn't allow to change that) and I want to play with colors and make the most of the square room. I want it clean, classy, modern and stylish nothing too bright or flashy but just flashy enough. I want it to be sophisticated but not overly mature.

A little about me: I'm a petite blond 23 year old who loves handbags shoes and cosmopolitans

Looking for color combinations, ideas, layouts as well as websites stores and manufacturers

thanks! ;)

  1. I think gray\silver and light and dark shades of aqua are nice. Stainless is timeless, sleek and classy. The aqua will add a little color to make it not so drab. If you are low on $$$$$$ hit some yard sales and buy a dresser and nightstand then go to lowe's and pick out a color. Even though your pieces don't match they will come together when painted the same color and maybe add matching drawer pulls. Put a modern stainless lamp on it. A fun-colored rug also adds a lot of color when you can't depend on the walls!

  2. Try fabrics on the walls (hanging by a curtain rod or something). It also gives the illusion of high ceilings. If you want neutral try the taupe and brown area. If you want colour, try to be bright. Yellows and light greens are fun. If you want sophisticated try more browns and warm greys (not dull greys yuck!) I am re-doing my own bedroom and it is light and dark browns with little black accents. Ikea has black furniture and it is modern but if you want more style and in budget try www.theroomstore.com or www.roomstogo.com. I'd personaly go to to the showroom and try the stuff out. Depending on where you live you can try the container store for storage options (cheap too)! The best place I know of is Rooms To Go their the best.

    Your Welcome!

  3. Wow I feel for you having to keep the walls white....I would suggest picking out 2-3 neutral colors(warm) like a beige, chocolate brown and something in between. Example: sofa, loveseat are beige, coffee tables are dark wood(walnut as one example) and get an area rug which contains similar colors. Then you pick an accent color(anything you like) and add it in here and there. I'll use baby blue for example which goes great with earthy tones. Get some candles/holders in blue. Add blue throw pillows to the couches and maybe a blue dish or something similar to the table. Also make sure your photos/art contain some hues of your accent color. The trick is to add enough color to make it stand out but not so much that it takes over. Also since your walls are white get some great window panels in the accent color. Your lighting/lamps or anything you add to the room which is metal should be dark (black or bronze) it will stand out better against the walls unlike a silver or white would. Just pick out your color scheme and it'll flow from there. Happy decorating!!!

I am a fan of black when it comes to a stark white rental place.

Because then you can use the large contrast with your black furniture.

Adding zip with the rug, comforter, window dressings, and lamps.

I stay with black picture frames as well with white walls.

If you can get a large canvas for a wall that helps with a stark white wall. Myself i would paint it with the colors of liking. You have the talent i am sure. Like the rug I gave you a link to.... it just ads a zip or zing.

Black is timeless. And you can add so much with candles, pillows, and throws to fit your taste.

Oh adding nice vintage handbags around the room is great. You can even place on the walls.

    Congrats on your graduation.

  5. I would try to make your place as functional as possible with a flare of sophistication and class. I like the black and white idea with splashes of color. Possibly red. Black and white personal photos on the walls with your accent color and the pillows? Rug? I would shop at ikea or Macy's. They have a decent decor section. Or just walk around the mall and get ideas. I could help? :) Stoneridge is nice I also like the Milpitas mall. Just a couple of suggestions. Good luck to you. I'm sure u will find what u are looking for.

  6. you have to go and check on http://www.westoffer.com

  7. When I read your question the first thing that came to my mind was Vogue, about some red frames to old posters from vogue magazines, i have seen some nice ones on line, they are feminine and classy, perfect for your personality! so I was thinking red, white and black, a zebra print for the bed, on the picture that I sent you I would paint the walls white or red depending on the landlord's permission of coarse.Find some vintage red purses to put on a black shelve, a white lamp . Let me know if you like my ideas!

  8. Since you have a white wall you can have any color. Reds and browns can work with any other color. Say you have red striped curtains(ikea.com/us/en/catalog/categori... and some light brown with black trim fruniture(ikea.com/us/en/catalog/product... like bedside tables and dressers, wardrobes and so forth. But have a very color full bed spread(ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/4... and a floor rug(ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/0008... Hope this works out!

  9. I suggest have fun with color

Not necessarily paint think more   like fabrics

  10. You could have animal print.I 'm sorry I don't design very good.

  11. i love gray and architects inspire me that color, because they are like elegant, classy and like you described it, but you're a lady so maybe you can add like purple or violet details, if you don't like that color maybe soft greens it may look more fresh. If you like minimalism it can be a good option to the sophisticated look you're looking for.

  12. Sounds like Carrie Bradshaw~~~~So you better go with the up-town urban look.  Maybe some heather shades of blue-green-brown, but very subtle.  You can be up-town classy w/out going w/black. ...Black & White is just a little too-too for a bedrm (my opinion)  Corner/angling a bed is always a good jumping off point for a sq. room. Maybe try a heather rose shade for your bedding & go from there. Just a thought. Best of Luck, Sounds like fun!

  13. i just moved and I am in the same situation. To buy furniture I would go to salvation army, they have really cheap furniture. I am looking at buying a bed at matress giant. I looked online and searched for furniture companies and found a place close to my house so i would suggest using the internet. Also, go to restrants and find ideas for your room there. I went to a resturant called RED. It is a sushi kinda place so I am gonna take a silver sheet and drizzle it with black and white paint; the bottom half of my room is gonna be red and that will give it an oriental look. I am still looking for ideas so I hope that I helped a little.

  14. yea go to ikea or charity shops. i would have it aqua, light i like that colour.. do you belive in splatering if so do! & b aware of flat packs from ikea they dnt end well 4 some.

  15. TRY IKEA! :)

They have nice furniture for a good price!

    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/catego...

  16. try colour combo..... coz its in... n ur today's girl so try n make it more fashionable...u can try n find some good stuff at stores... no need to go for high end designer stuff.... plus u get a lot of designer stuff in discount in month of june- sep...

try marine blue n mix match colours hope u like my idea...

  17. For starters, head to IKEA, its easy, cheap and stylish. Theyre stuff is coordinated so that everything matches. Start with the staples of furniture. A nice sorta futonish bed, possible with an integrated backboard. Then add bedside tables and cupboards. Dont get really round, plushy sofa's, as they tend to look cheap and old. stick with sharp corners.

If its just  bedroom, a nice sofa or chair may look good. and since your an architect, you cant go past a nice, big desk.

Good colour schemes are like black, red and white. o loke red manchester, black bed and stained black tables.

    or like browns and whites.

    Good luck

  18. a black, white and red bed set is very classy...try something with flowers. black is easy to match with as in picture frames or accessories. if you're going for a modern look try IKEA and for accessories target, nordstrom, jc penny etc. these can really save you some money too!
