So, my school is holding this science fair thing...my group's topic is Streamlining - basically, how streamlined different materials of swimwear can be.....and we don't have any idea what kind of practical experiment would help us with this. Any ideas?

thanks :)

  1. you could get 2 different mini boats 1 streamlined 1 not and give them sails. get a fan and show that the streamlined 1 moves quicker than the other in a padling pool

    or not:P

  2. Sure! If you have access to a pool...

    1) Have one person swim the length of the pool 3 times. With a stopwatch, record the number of time it takes that person to swim and tell them to be as consistant as possible.

    2) Have them swim in shorts and a shirt ( non stream lined) the same number of times recording the time

    3) Have them swim in a variety of swimwear 3 times per suit and record the time.

Now do either A or B depending on how difficult you want it to be...

    A. Difficult: Plug the times in microsoft Excel.... Use the paired t-test function with alpha = 0.5 to determine if there is a signigicant difference between the times

    B. Easy: Post the times on a poster board next to the picture of the outfit worn and state which suit resulted in the fastest time

    Good Luck!!
