Anyway, here's a few ideas of my own.

1) In 1990 the cold war came to head;  The US and Soviet Russia declared all out nuclear war. When the dust cleared, the earth was left in ruins; what life managed to survive was horribly twisted by nuclear fall, what few plants survived where scarse and not fit for food.  Fewer than a 100,000 humans survived world wide.  They banded together in the only place safe, Antartica.  Protected at the bottom of the world, it suddenly became a paradice as the earth tilted on its axis.  Prehistoric seeds, frozen in ice for millions of years germinated and created a a haven for the last remaning humans.  Determined that nothing like this should ever happen again, scientists worked to atone for their sins; they build a satalite and froze two people in a cryogenic state.  In 500 hundred years they would awake and evaluate the human race; if they had refused nuclear technology then they could live on, but if they hadn't, the two young people where to activate the satilite and whip humanity from the face of the earth forever. The two young people, Hiro and Anastasia, passed into legend.  Finaly, on the 500th aneversary of their sleep, they awoke, only to find that humans had been forced into bondage to a race of humans twisted by nuclear fall out. Now they must resuce the human race. Things only get more complicated when the satalite malfunctions and activates program "Ragnorak".

2) On a vocanic world the main sport is lava surfing. Every 100 years geothermic surges create tidal waves of lava that the best contenders use in an all out contest.  The winner is granted the "Ultimate Reward".  Amoung the fifty contests of this century is Rico and Urser, two childhood friends with a friendly rivalry. Their rivalry turns sour when Urser makes a deal with an old crone.  Things really heat up when Rico discovers an old legend: every 1000 years an ancient dragons rises from withen the planets core and recks havit on the world.  The situation turns from bad to worse as Rico slowly uncovers the truth of the "Ultimate reward"; the winner is sacrificed to the core to maintain the volcanic flows that are central to the planets culture.  Now Rico must make a decisions decisions that will affect his and everyone elses life.  Should he win the race and sacrifice himself to save his world, or rescue Urser only to lose him to the race?  And what of the dragon? He can't, in good concious, allow it to live and destroy more people.

(The people are not immue to lava, they just have high heat tollerence.)

3) 10 years ago, Rence watched as the Black Police murdered his brother and mother. They were made into examples because they refused to pay the "tax".  He was left for dead, but was discoved by a wizard that lived in the nearby woods.  After ten years of training under the wizard Rence left with a mastery of the mystic arts and I deep lothing for his father the captain of the Black Police.  First he tracks the Captain down, and kills him easily. He becomes angry at what he's done, but when he stumbals across his father's name in one of the Captain's file he imediatley sets out with a new goal.  Rence finds his father locked int he bowls of the dungeon of the neigboring kingdom. After a brif discussion, Rence congures a spike from the floor that runs his father through, killing him. The mental anguish drives Rence to insanity. he vows to destroy the man that "made" into what he is.  

Fast forward and Rence is the Supreme ruler and his rign is far darker and more terrible than his predissesor.

(This is ment as a prolouge to give the back story to a villian in another story.)
