I need some info for a salvage title on a car?

i am looking at a car with a salvage title. is there any problems with them? can you trade them in at a dealer? are they hard to resale?

  1. Keep looking, and pass on this one.  A salvage title means it was wrecked to the point the repairs would be more than the worth of the car.  You will have a hard time finding insurance for them, and if you do find one that will cover you, they won't allow you to get collision.

    If you are the victim of an accident that isn't your fault, the insurance will give you 50% of fair market value if it's totaled, just because of the salvage title.

    You can trade them, but you won't get much because they are very hard to resell.  No one wants a salvage title unless they are looking for a bargain on a parts car.


  2. The answers are yes, no and yes. A salvage title is placed on a vehicle that has been damaged , stripped or wrecked to the point that it was written off as a total loss by the insurance company. If it has been put back on the road, there is no guarantee the work has been done properly. Most insurance companies are very hesitant to insure them and traditional "book values" do not apply.
