I bought a Canon Rebel XSi with the 18-55mm kit lens but the focusing ring on it rotates the whole front part of the lens. This is especially bothersome when using a polarizing filter. I was wondering how the focusing system worked for the following three camreas:

-Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

-Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM

-Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM

  1. Only the 70-200 has inner focusing mechanisms, the others will do the same thing... to compensate for that... focus manually, and adjust your filter.

  2. I own both the 17-85mm and the 28-135mm. Neither of them have front rotating elements. They'll be fine with a polarizer.
