  1. How about putting different objects that appeal to the senses in brown paper bags.  Label each with the sense in word and picture form and then have the students examine that object using just that sense (feel inside the bag without looking) and describe what is in each bag.  Put in objects that they might not be too familiar with like nutmeg or a piece of sandpaper.

I also taught a lesson once to kindergarten students about what it is like to be without one of those senses (like blind or deaf).  I had the students blindfold a partner and try to lead them around the room verbally and asked them questions like why would it be dangerous to cross a street if you couldn't hear, etc.  I also taught them some basic sign language.  This might be a neat way to incorporate a tolerance lesson.

  2. Here is poem for you:

    That's my face

    That's my face

    Look, can you see?

    Here are my eyes

    They are part of me

    That's my face

    Look, can you see?

    Here is my nose

    It is part of me

    That's my face

    Look, can you see?

    Here are my ears

    They are part of me

    That's my face

    Look, can you see?

    Here is my mouth

    It is part of me

    That's my face

    Look, can you see?

    Here are my teeth

    They are part of me.

So start with the poem as familar parts of the children and ask them what they do with each of the parts, also include the skin as sense organ in discussion.

Some possible activites: Listening: make a recording of different sounds like taps running, cats meowing, telepone ringing, door slamming, etc and ask the children to identify

Play musical instruments behind a screen ansd thew childrn guess which instrument.

Taste: Crisp flavours, or more healthy, blindfold fruit salad!!

Touch: texture survey arrange an assortment of different textured materials and ask the children to describe them using texture words, like rough, smooth, silky, bumpy, etc

Sight: well lots of options here, eg: self portraits using mirrror, each other's portarits, describe what you see. etc

Smell: soap fragrances, can you guess what the substance is by smellin? This can be combined with the blindfold fruit activity.

    Hope this helps
