im doing "g*y marriage" on a grade 11 legal studies assignment.

i need to know - -

- explain the area of law

- classified as public or private

- does it reflect the community's values, does it protect citizen's rights, does it set unacceptable standards of behaviour

- who would be likely to push for the law to be changed

- what impact does this law have on society

- why was it introduced

- what are some arguments against it

OR

if these questions cant be answered i DESPERATELY need a website or two where i can find answers to these questions.

i live in aus. so the description of the australian law would be preferred.

thankyou!

  1. Like the above answer... it's public law and yes it has not been legalised but note there will be current law reform in this area you could probably note that this undergoing review there is a possibility that they may allow same s*x couples to have civil union marriages. There are articles I actually saved some last year for family law.

Ask your teacher first...as it does prove the idea of community values since the community is lobbying for a change proves your above second and third question. Google it.. The question is asking you to evaluate since you wrote arguments against it... this a skill you need to master before the HSC! well I can give you a site okay... go to google books search Excel HSC Legal Studies there you'll find the book  and will be able to open it and  look for family law as this pertains to that and you should find your answers.

  2. g*y marriages are against the law and so, will be classified as public law because in order for a valid marriage to occur, it has to be a male-female union.

The topic of g*y marriages is outlined under the Marriage Act 1961 (there should be information in this Act that will help you).
