the US dropped our 2 a-bombs on japan aug 6 and aug 9 and then japan surrendered in WWII on aug 15....singapore gained independence on aug 19 (i think)....napoleon's b-day is in mid-august...hawaii was admitted as the 50th state....india gained independence.
