Okay well, i live in Australia and the legal drop out age here is 15.

I'm currently 15 but was forced to repeat (no due to school marks!) and am still in year 9. I'm currently at a school i really dislike and have been planning on maybe dropping out at the end of year ten so i can start a full time tafe course, in doing this i would have to incur the wrath of my parents mainly. But i truly believe that i would do better out of the school and working on a specific area that interests me (for me is design)

I'm just asking for peoples opinions on this and if they happen to live in australia or know anything about tafe etc. some advice please.

thankyou so much!

  1. I don't begrudge anyone who chooses not to finish high school, however there is a stigma that follows you if you choose to do that.  I worked in the human resources department of a large company for a long time.  In that position, it was my job to review resumes.  One of the "guidelines" was that we looked at was if the applicant had finished high school.  The reason for this was this, failure to finish high school it seems to set a pattern of not completing tasks once they become difficult.  I'm not saying that you would do this, but it is how many companies view dropping out of high school.

  2. Give it another 2 years at least!  You're still young, and you could regret it when you get older.

  3. its not easy having to repeat a grade but honestly you should stay in school. i understand that this other program interests you but getting a well rounded liberal arts education is the basis for college. i would open up to your parents and shine some light on them in regards to how your feeling.

  4. i want to commend you on your question...your a really intelligent 15 year old....school isn't for everyone the fact that you realize that your attention and Witt's are not being met there, is a great sign that your talent is not being found there.....now i think it's wise to finish your 10th year and do your very best cause then you'll prove to your folks that you did the mature thing in finishing that grade and that you gave it a great shot, but in the meantime your not enjoying being in school. while your finishing your 10th grade make a list of why you want to go to this tafe course outlining your interest and what you believe it can offer you. then and only then bring this issue to your parents. let them know your plans for the future and it won't hurt to show them or tell them some of your fashion design or designs.....god bless you on your  endeavor
