My Pit bull just had a litter of puppies. I am wanting some advice on how to keep her and the puppies comfortable and happy. This is my first time to have a dog that has had puppies so helpful advice is appreciated.

  1. let the new mother of the pups tend her babies.it's all natural.be sure the beddind and the papers in the box are kept clean and the mom has plenty of water and she is wating well.

  2. Make sure mom has all the water she wants.  Keep everyone warm and the area clean and you should be fine.  Mom will take care of most of it!

    Good luck!

  3. i am a vet soo lisen give then lots of pace and room to run have unlimitted water but not food they will get over waite and have lots of chew toys and never hit then  be ferm with then and  be safe  you should sell thenm befor 3mounths ok

    thanks

  4. Mama will take care of a lot of the hard work - keep them in their whelping box or whelping area, away from house traffic in a quiet, secluded area.

Give Mama plenty of extra food - we give free choice puppy food and PLENTY of water (so she can eat and drink as she pleases), as well as feeding a mix of puppy food, chicken, and yogurt 3 times a day.

Make sure the puppies are warm. Puppies cannot regulate their body temperature, so if it's cold you may need to set up a heat lamp or a heating pad in one corner of their box. Just be sure there's both a warm and cool area, so they can go to the warmth if they're cold but they can also get away if they get too warm!

Weigh each puppy daily. They should all be gaining weight. In addition, take them to the vet at 2-3 days old for an all over checkup of the babies and the mother. You should also handle and play with the puppies to get them used to human contact, but don't upset the mom - if she seems nervous or upset, give the baby back!

    Good luck!

  5. She needs unlimited access to food and water right now.  Also make sure you are weighing the puppies every day to make sure they gain weight.  They also need to be held everyday very briefly so they are used to being handled.  For the most part just leave her be as long as she is tending to them.

    Good luck

I took in a pregnant stray that had 8 puppies.

Also, make sure the bedding is not too soft or that the pups can get under it.  Is she in a welping box so she cannot smush them?  If not I recommend a baby monitor on 24/7 so you can hear if she lays on one or if one is not getting fed.  It will scream non stop

Read up on eclampsia in nursing dogs. They are not supposed to have any additional calcium while nursing.
