  1. You need money to leave the country (Cuba). You pay this at the airport on your outbound flight. I think it was 20 or 25 pesos.

  2. Well, I can tell you that Cuba is a country ruled by comunists, with a terrible iron fist. Cubans die trying to escape

Not a good place to travel to

  3. I've been to Cuba nine times and never heard of  this 50 peso thing.  You can't buy the CUC (convertible pesos) which tourists use  until you arrive when  you can buy them at the airport or your resort. There's no problem with Canadian credit cards as long as they are drawn on a Canadian bank however small shops, not the ones at your resort but away from your resort  most likely won't take credit cards although you can certainly use them to pay for tours, hotel bills and that type of thing.  Keep in mind, it's best to spend all the CUC you have before leaving Cuba because you won't be able to exchange them once you leave Cuba although I always like to save a few for my next visit.  Chances are, you go once, you will be back.  You can check the approximate exchange rate at the site below.  Have a wonderful time.

  4. I agree with Riki. There is NO minimum or limit to what you can bring into Cuba. What you do need to make sure you have before leaving Cuba is $25 CUC for air departure tax. Other than that, carry whatever amount of money you want. You can use Canadian credit cards...BUT as long as they are not US-based (i.e. American Express...even though it's your CANADIAN card).

The only thing is that you cannot change your money into CUC here in Canada. CUC are only for tourists in Cuba and can only be obtained there. They have no value outside of Cuba...so it would be better to change your money back to Canadian as you leave Cuba.

Don't change all your money over right away so that you don't lose in the exchange rate upon returning home (when changing CUC into CAD).

You will be able to change your money at the airport, hotel/resort, banks, CADECAs (money-exchange houses ... casas de cambio).

There will be no difficulties at all. Just remember though that ATMs don't always work as it depends upon the day's 'communications' system.

If you need to make cash advances, you can do so on your credit card....as well, you can pay for things like excursions on your card as well. But keep in mind that when doing that, you will be charged first in USD...but it's still worth it...you won't lose too much if it's necessary to do.

Tips are accepted in CUC. They won't be able to use our loonies and toonies. So you might want to exchange a few dollars at the airport when you land so that you can tip the guy who helps you with your luggage at the airport and at the resort...and the bus driver to the resort, if you like.

You will have an amazing time in Cuba, just as Riki said. And guaranteed you'll be going back before you know it :-)

Have a safe flight and have fun!

BTW, where in Cuba are you going to?

    Chao!

  5. Actually it is True 50 pesos or its equivalent is requiered officially to enter Cuba, but when you come from a developed rich nation like Canada or Europe...which makes you very unlikely you would come to Cuba broke its hardly checked or the rule enforced, but if youre a Citizen of a Country like war torn Iraq..or a Very poor nation like Haiti you will most likely Be requiered to show evidence that you can support yourself in Cuba.

Officialy too youre supposed to Have a Hotel reservation,a Plane ticket out of Cuba along with these 50 pesos a day again it wont be checked if you come from Canada.

As far as Plastic goes Credit cards issued by Canadian and European banks ARE accepted (except AMEX). Credit cards issued by US banks are NOT accepted. Travelers cheques issued by Canadian and European banks ARE accepted. Travelers cheques issued by AMEX or by US banks are NOT accepted. Debit cards do NOT work in Cuba.
