This is what I have so far (we are working on a tight budget)

playing card decks as favors I found 2 for $1.00 and then we are going to make labels that say the date and occasion.

cardboard boxes that are painted to look like dice

making posterboard of pics of mom and dad with card decorations on it.

card box is decorated with the king and queen of hearts

then we are randomly placing cards all over the walls so they don't look plain.

we will have a euchre tournament

can you think of anything else?

This is an anniversary party for about 100 and will be held in a small party hall. Any ideas you have would be a great help!

Snack ideas that are easy also .

  1. I did a card party theme for my husband's birthday last year. I made 4 layers for a cake and decorated them like poker chips. I set them on top of each other, slightly off center so it looked like a stack of chips.

  2. I love the idea of using the cookie cutters.  You could mini ones for slices of fruits & veggies too.  I have to say I love places like Costco for reasonably priced, delicious party trays.

Since it's your parents anniversary, you could put together a DVD montage of their pictures.  There are some DIY options available online & the end result costs about $25.   See if the hall has a TV or projection screen you could use to show the video.

For music, make a compilation of the songs that were popular the year they were married.  You could make another CD with songs relating to anything cards or gambling.

On the tables have funny props - oversized sunglasses, feather boas, dealer visor, sombrero, devil horns headband, etc.  It's fun watching people get goofy.  Plus, can you imagine looking at the pictures of Aunt Millie playine euchre  with oversized glasses on?

    Enjoy!

  3. INGREDIENTS:

Let mints set up for 30 minutes. Store in an airtight container in a cool place.

Makes 3 to 4 dozen mints

This easy recipe is a Southern favorite, made with bourbon, vanilla wafer crumbs, and cocoa, along with pecans and confectioners' sugar.

    INGREDIENTS:

    • 1 cup fine vanilla wafer crumbs

    • 1 cup finely chopped pecans

    • 1 cup confectioners' sugar

    • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

    • 1/4 cup bourbon

    • 1 tablespoons plus 1 1/2 teaspoons light corn syrup

    • confectioners' sugar, sifted

    PREPARATION:

Thoroughly combine 1 crushed vanilla wafer crumbs, chopped pecans, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and the cocoa. In a separate bowl, blend the bourbon and corn syrup. Stir this bourbon mixture into the dry mixture; blend well.

Cover and chill for at least a few hours. Sift about 1/2 to 1 cup of confectioners' sugar on a cookie sheet. Shape small bits of the dough into balls and roll them in the confectioners'. Store in refrigerator in tightly covered containers. Make these a few days in advance for best flavor, and roll in confectioners' sugar again before serving, if desired. These can also be frozen for longer storage.

Makes about 3 dozen bourbon balls.

    For Non-Alcohol use this recipe…

    .INGREDIENTS:

    • 2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips

    • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

    • pinch salt

    • 1 cup chopped pecans

    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    PREPARATION:

In a double boiler over hot water, melt chocolate. Stir in sweetened condensed milk, salt, chopped nuts, and vanilla. Cool the mixture until easy to shape into small balls. Dip each ball into flaked coconut or finely chopped nuts.

all of these are easy to make for a large group of people..and they can be made up to 2 weeks ahead, they store well in fridge in sealed plastic container.

  4. SInce you're invited so many, how about asking people to bring a dish/snack/dessert and set up a buffet table area for when the players aren't busy.  All you need to provide would be coffee and punch.  Sounds lovely.  Enjoy.

  5. Make sandwiches and cut them with cookie or bread cutters in the shapes of a spade, clover, etc.  also make sugar cookies and cut with those cutters.

  6. you can decorate square cookies to look like cards

fill up clear vases of different sizes with poker chips for decoration

have a friend be a dealer at one table for black jack (make them dress up)

play Egyptian rat s***w b/c it is the best game ever

    have fun!
