okay, so u go to college, i get it, but i want to go to med school, and i heard that takes like 10 years to complete. one of my family members sed that if u go to lets say princeton then they have a med school right on campus, so its like 5 years off your shoulders. is there a good college that could prepare you for med school, or any is good? and also if u can give some good med schools around the west coast (NJ, NY, MD etc...) thanx!

  1. Med school itself takes 4 years.  You will start with a totally different degree however.  Pre-med undergraduates studies. Recommended majors Cellular biology,  Molecular biology etc.  This usually takes around four years.  Then you must apply for Medical school and get accepted.  Med-school then takes four years.  So now you're at an eight year total of college.  Then comes residency.  It all depends on which type of doctor you choice to be.  To be a pediatrician you have to do your residency for about four years.  General surgery 5 years, specialize Cardiovascular usually takes an additional 3.  So there's 16 years total.  Some colleges however do offer combined programs where you can go through under-grad and med school in 6 years.  Princeton however does not do this.  Princeton is known for having one of the most elite molecular biology schools for undergrad students.

I think you mean the east coast... because NJ, NY etc. are on the east, not the west.  However there are the obvious ones Harvard,  Princeton,  etc.  Just do research everywhere to make absolutely positive this is what you want to do it takes a lot of commitment.

  2. Princeton has a medical school, but you still have to go through the first four years for your BS. Then four years of med school, then your residency, and more if you go into a specialty.

    Example

    four years of college

    four years of medical school

one year of a Pediatrics internship

two years of a Pediatrics residency

So that adds up to about 11 years of school and training to become a Pediatrician.

It is important to note that during your internship and residency years, while you are still learning, you are not really in school and are getting paid for your work.

  3. Emory's got an excellent medical program.  I recommend Georgia Tech for your undergrad though because it's not only a better program than Emory's, but it's also a lot cheaper.
