    my OPINION:...looks cheap

  2. I have the newer one- I absolutely love it, it fits very snug on my head, doesn't move and the padding won't fall out (newer version).

I wear it in the show ring... its a helmet like any other. You can buy a black helmet cover to wear over it too.

Its not cheap at all, In my opinion they are very well made and fit nicely. They are a great schooling helmet too.

These helmets are not cheap as in, not expensive, any helmet is at least $70.. those ones are I beliee... $90. There is no sense in paying more for something that does the exact same thing. Though you need to find a helmet that looks good on you too. No helmet is 'cheap' they all protect your head (I had numerous falls on my old tipperary helmet and it lasted for a long time). If you just want one for looks, then thats up to you. I usually see these helmets on cross country or in eventing- I use mine for everything; dresage, show jumping and cross country and I love my helmet.

My opinion: It's different, but what are you using it for? I wouldn't be seen in the show ring wearing one of those! Maybe in cross country.

  4. Unfortunately I don't have a picture for you but a little info about the helmet:

The Tipperary sportage PLUS is the newer version of the Tipperary Sportage.  The differences are basically the harness is a different style, it is not a matte finish and no shiny like the older version, and the outside shell is a cleaner finish.

The tipperary sportage is just about impossible to find since it was discontinued.

The helmet will cover a little more of your head as the profile is slightly lower.  This tends to eliminate the helmet "bob" most people get from troxels.  It has generous padding.  Every person I put one on loves how comfortable they are.  They come in 4 really nice colors: cocoa, carbon, navy, and hunter green.  The helmet has plenty of vents to keep you cool.  For schooling, a good choice.  It passes the ASTM/SEI safety standards too.  They can run about $55 to $75.

Downfall: the brim is very short and you really cant show english in it.  (Although if it is just a schooling show and there is not dress code you could put a cover on it.  And you can add a sunbonnet to make the brim longer for more shade.)

You can find all the products here:

Oh, don't forget the helmet spray to keep the stink out and a bag to protect your investment so it lasts.

  5. I have the previous version of the Tipperary Helmet and I really like it. It is light and comfortable with a lot of ventilation. I have not purchased the new one yet, although I plan to. I saw a woman wearing one at a clinic earlier in the summer and I asked her how she liked it. She said it was the most comfortable helmet she had ever used.

  6. sorry i don't have a picture but i have one and i LOVE it! its really comfortable and snug and definitely an upgrade from my old troxel which was nice but the tipperary sportage plus is for sure better in my opinion
