  2. It's always good to learn to read notes, the ear may can't catch some difficulties in the melodies, people, who say that they can play without the knowledge of reading sheets - say nonsense.

  3. Always learn to read notes!  Playing by ear is a gift, and not everyone has it.  I sure don't.  But I can read the notes, and because I can, I can play anything--- simple or hard, the first time I see it.  

    Reading notes is educated, and that can't be said of playing by ear.  That truly is a gift. (as I said earlier!)
