I'm a young woman who wishes to exercise her 2nd amendment rights, So I need gun suggestions. Small, low-cost, low-maintenence. And I'd like a name I know since I know nothing about this. So if it killed somebody on Law & Order, it's cool, lol.

  1. This isn't low cost, but go with the Springfield Armory XD Subcompact.  I know that it's on my shopping list.  Link provided below.

  2. I recommend a GLOCK 25 (9 millimeter). Go to a nice gun store and ask to try it out. Take the conceal and carry course even if you don't get the lis. it will train you how to use it.

  3. If your looking for a bargain check out your local pawn shops.  You should be able to pick up a .38 snub nose or, a 380 semi-auto with plenty of stopping power for around $300.  Ruger, Colt and S&W are all decent brands. With Ruger on the lower end price wise and, Colt and S&W on the higher end.  You might want to look around at a near by gun show.  Someone there could probably give you some better advice.  I would suggest you also check out the local gun range.  They may have some guns you can rent to see they feel.  It is also a good idea to take a gun safety course.  Otherwise you are more likely to shoot yourself or, a family member than an intruder.

  4. Go to the gun store and buy what you like. They should have something that appeals to you (blue steel, silver plated, pearl handle)

  5. umm i know you have to be 21 to buy and have posesion on a hand gun in ohio but i would say a 9mm  or a 45 magnum or acp  or maybe a 380  ive shot all these guns of my dads and they are not bad at all they are fun to shoot

  6. Glock model 17 or 19 in the .40 mm caliber. Good stopping power, not heavy. Gun store

  7. You should go into the nearest gun store and chat with them. They'll walk you through the process.

My recommendations are a semi-auto pistol. Since you seem new to this, I'd advocate a smaller caliber. Probably 9mm. Sig-Sauer is the best you can buy, but they tend to be expensive. Worth the cash though!

Many people like Glock. Personally I don't. Others like Beretta. I don't either. I do like H&K. Their USP is a nice pistol. So in short I have two brand recommendations: Sig and H&K.

Razor Jim is horribly ignorant. That hurts to read. ".40 mm" You mean .40 Caliber.

I don't recommend .40 for someone who's new, particularly a woman. Lets start you off with 9mm. Its nice and easy.

  8. If you are seeking primarily home defense (vs. carrying in your purse) I would suggest leaping over to the 12 gauge category. That's where I finally settled for my starting point years ago.

The way I see it, a burglar breaks in, looks over a short, petite gal with a handgun and thinks A) will she use it; B) can she aim.

With a shotgun, the perp will know aim is no longer a factor. Too, there is something about the sound of chambering a 12 gauge that I highly suspect tells anyone within earshot that you're serious. ;-)

That said, I did manage to blacken my eye the first time I touched it off, but it only took the first round to teach me to roll with the recoil.

I've moved on to other goodies over the years but my 12 gauge with a shortened stock would be the last I would ever give up.

Regardless of what you choose, find a local shooting range and practice LOTS, take some safety lessons, learn to clean it etc. If you don't know your weapon, you are more dangerous to yourself than you are to others.
