There has been a series of attempted car burglaries in my apartment complex and last night my vehicle was the target. I woke up to a weird noise and my boyfriend ran to the door to discover two people trying to break into his truck. He yelled at the people and started to run after them but they got away. We ended up going to the police department but all they really done was circle the drive to look for suspicious activity.

  1. Buy the meanest pitbull you can find, and let him/her live in your car at night. Problem solved !!

  2. I think the best way of lessening the chances of someone breaking into your car are to make it as hard as possible.

First, make sure there is a car alarm fitted.

Then also fit a highly visible steering lock or a lock preventing the gear stick from being moved.

Remove all valuables from the car including the radio. Make sure there is nothing in the car such as boxes even if empty (someone could look inside and see a box and think it is worth seeing if there is anything valuable inside).

If you can, park the car somewhere there is a bit of traffic as it increases the chances of a thief being caught so they are less likely to risk it.

Basically, if they look at your car, decide that it is too hard to break into and steal and there is nothing of value inside, they will look for easier targets.

  3. When I lived in LA, the car theft capital, I found the only way to protect the investment I had in both my cars was to install car alarms.  That way, you can at least hear it when someone is attempting to break into your car.  That being said, here in San Diego, they aren't stealing the entire car, they are puncturing gas tanks and siphoning off the gas or stealing the catalytic converter right from under the car!

  4. A motion detecting outside light would help...

Griping at the complex owner for better security would be best.

  5. boobie traps are always fun....

leave the truck unlocked, but disable it (unhook spark plug wires is a quick/easy way) have the door rigged with a noise maker, unhook the inner door handles, and voila, you got yourself a burglar trap... they will likely try to break the windows to get out, but by that time you can have them cornered and cops on the way...
