Ok. i want a horse but i have to pay for the horse part. I have about $400 right now and I need about $1,000 - $4,000 or so. I need to make a lot more money. My mom said that she can help pay for the keeping so I think that part is fine...so do you have any suggestions that I could do to raise money?

  1. do things around the house car wash etc and and save your birthday money and money that you get

  2. I got my horse for free. He is great too. He was so gentle that I trained him myself and NEVER had a problem. I would suggest looking around a little, you might be able to find one cheap. The horse market is down right now too. (Where I live it is anyways) Otherwise depending on how old you are you could get a job, work at a stable (some work out good deals on board if you work there) babysit, if you have anything worth money you could sell it. Dont forget about everything else you need for a horse too, such as treats, a saddle, buckets, grooming kit, etc. Good luck and have fun!!

  3. i don't know how old you are but if you're 16 or older then you can get a "real" job....waitressing, working at a grocery store, a store in the mall, etc.

if you're not yet 16 you can work around the barn you ride at, babysit, do yard work, have a lemonade stand, pet-sit, house-sit, have a garage sale and sell old stuff you don't need anymore.

for your birthday just ask for money.  also mention to grandparents, aunts & uncles, etc that you are saving up for a horse and maybe they will chip in =]

also save money wherever possible. like instead of going out to the movies with your friends, save the money you would have used and instead have your friends over to watch a movie you already own.  or go and see the movie, but skip out on the popcorn. even though it's not much money, it adds up in the long run.

    good luck =]

  4. Buying the horse is the easy part - the upkeep is the expensive part!!! Get a job to earn money - If you're too young for a job, try babysitting or pet sitting or something like that. Once you get a horse, I recommend you see about helping out around the stable to offset some of the costs. **Look into it before you buy your horse**. I would think about taking lessons or leasing a horse at a local stable until you come up with the funds for your new friend :)

  5. your mom said she would help pay for the keeping, but every 4-6 wks or so you will have to have his hooves trimmed. fly sprays, vaccinations worming, and daily picking his feet are all other responsibilities.  I had a quarter horse but had to sell him because I couldn't spend the TIME with him that he needed. they are very high maintenance (they require LOTS OF TIME and care and money), but the time i had with my horse, Skip gave me a lot of joy. So you need money for the extra expenses as well. you could lease a horse sometimes. that's a little cheaper. good luck and happy trails.

  6. for a first horse, i wouldn't rescue one unless it is absolutely sound, perfect and quiet! having a horse of your own is massive and you may think you are ready for any thing, but the best way to go is wait, save and buy a perfect horse, not just one that is cheap!

you may not want to hear this, but take your time. yes it is exciting and all but don't just go buy the first thing you can afford.

    goodluck

  7. The bills to care for the horse come in whether or not you can find some way to find the money..until you have a reliable long term source of income it is a mistake for you to purchase a horse.

  8. You should try getting a horse from a shelter, if you haven't already picked out the one you want.  I don't think they cost as much and you would be rescueing a horse that might otherwise be put down.  I paid 2,700 for my horse, and made payments.  You might be able to do that, depending on who you get it from.

  9. There are millions of things that you can do:  baby sitting, pet sitting, house sitting, if you have a lawn mower you could mow peoples lawns, car wash, you could offer to do odd jobs for your family, friends or neighbors.

  10. Ask and see if you can help or work at your instructors barn.
