  1. Practice, practice, practice.

  2. If your too embarassed to do what NABS said and try on the beach just do it in the lounge.

You can do it when your watching tv, just lie on you belly and spring to your feet.

Do this 50 times each night and next time you go surfing you will be able to do it naturally.

  3. you can put the board in the sand and repetitively try popping up, you'll get it after a while. Its just like a push up accept your getting to your feet. The faster the better. you can also try the indo balance board which will perfect you balance when your up. Watch this video it should help a bit http://youtube.com/watch?v=g2obOq6mlBw

  4. Practice at home popping up. Also stay low. It isn’t about standing up straight. You have to crawl before you walk right?? Your legs should not be that far apart, just a little past shoulder with apart.

Do a turtle dive. Flip the board when the wave comes and pull the board to your body like you are laying on it only upside-down under water as the wave passes. Unless you are in a large swell the board should not float away.

Or If you have a leash hold on to the end of the leash by the tail of the board and swim over the wave with leash in your hand by the tail of the board. That is the strongest part of the leash and will prevent the board from flipping to much.

    HOpe that helps.

  5. The only way you can get up quicker on the board is by practice. If you do it over and over you will get it right. Make sure you stretch before you jump in the water, it enhances your speed and ability to jump up faster. Just try and jump up as lightly as you can. As for loosing the board, that would be pretty hard to maintain without a leg rope, although it shouldn't go too far since the surf heads towards shore.

Hope this is helpful and goodluck!
