I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Limited Edition, My husband bought it for me in the winter time. And being a genius that he is. He didn't make sure everything on it worked. So when Summer hit I went to turn on the A/C and it doesn't work. So I popped the hood on it, and someone cut the wires the connect the A/C. Now the question I propose in detail is: How do I fix this problem?

  1. If it's just the wires going to the compressor (to the plug on compressor), go by your local Ford dealership and ask them for a pigtail for the ac compressor. Most likely it will just have two wires and the plug that actually plugs into the compressor. Get a wiring diagram and splice it into the proper wires. You can get a good wiring diagram at alldatadiy dot com or mitchellondemand dot com. If you took it to a shop, what did they say? Did they not know how to fix it or did you decline to repair it there. If they didn't know how to fix it, take your truck to the dealer and let them fix it there.

  2. It's a good possibility that the wires you refer to are for the A/C compressor.

These will be cut if it is bad so someone can't turn it on and make it worse.  An A/C compressor isn't cheap.  Many times upwards of $1000, so shop around.  They are made as re-mans at lower cost's.  The wire hook up can be performed by service person during replacement.

    Good Luck

  3. Lets find out WHY the wires were cut.

I don't think it was vandalism.

  4. chances are the a/c compressor is no good.

  5. Were the wires just cut? Or did they remove the plug in connector? The bigger question is "Why" did they cut the wires? If all they did was cut the wires, you should be able to splice them back together. Its easy to do. Just match the colors and splice them together. Something tells me that there is something else wrong with the system. I hope not. Good luck.
