I'm researching for a book (the book is kids fiction, but I want to include real facts) and when I just google rare birds I get way too much information to sift through. Just a few types would really help to get started! Thanks!

  1. Macaw

  2. There are so many birds so you need to narrow your search by size, colors, talking ability, foods they eat , etc.

I raise  / breed many varieties .. Have well over 200 birds at this time.

    You can e-mail me privately

  3. here  r some fun facts about toucans and Macaws

The toucan is a poor flyer, moving from tree to tree mostly

    by hopping....

Toucans have a loud frog like call that can be heard up to a half mile away in the jungle.....

Macaws  have gripping toes that they use to latch onto branches and to grab, hold, and examine items. The birds sport graceful tails that are typically very long....

There are 17 species of macaws, and several are endangered. These playful birds are popular pets, and many are illegally trapped for that trade. The rain forest homes of many species are also

    disappearing at an alarming rate....

  4. I love the toucan suggestion.  They do make good pets if they are properly cared for.  Definitely not a beginner bird though.

I wanted to throw in my suggestion of a Queen of Bavaria or Golden Conure.  They are a very rare and beautiful yellow with some green bird.  They are not usually sold as pets due to their price and endangered status but would make a nice subject for a children's book.

  5. check out http://www.parrotcentral.net/companion_p... there is a list, goodluck!
