  1. Try something that contains diquat or paraquat

  2. Salt & Boiling water works well on weeds!

  3. Ahh, nothing like adding a known toxin to the ecosystem just to control some species in our yards that we deem to be unsightly.

For more on its negative effects, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roundup

  4. Sodium chlorate will kill everything, but you can't replant the ground for a few months. Diquat (Weedol 2) will kill all green plants including grass, but will not penetrate brown bark.

  5. Sorry Andy W, if you tried Roundup and it doesn't work, you're doing something wrong. Get the expensive stuff, the concentrated version, and use it only SLIGHTLY more than directed. It says to put 2.5 ounces in a gallon - put 3 ounces in a gallon. Any more is waste.

Use a good sprayer, they too are cheap, I have a SprayDoc. We have poison oak everywhere and it works GREAT, takes 2 years for it to start trying to grow again and a littel spritz takes care of that.

IT needs to be applied to LEAVES. Spraying the ground won't do anything but poison the ground for a while. Roundup works by getting into the plant through the leaves, traveling to the roots, and prevents it from producing chlorophyll. It breaks down into harmless byproducts in 3-4 weeks so it can't do permanent environmental damage.

The only other thing you could be doing wrong is spraying at the wrong time of year. When it gets hot, the plants tend to "close up" to retain moisture and the roundup doesn't get in the leaves. Try to hit them as early as possible in the spring.

  6. Roundup kills frogs, and most other herbicides have side effects that impact negatively on the environment. Idiots who recommend petrol, salt etc. should be forced to read some environmental awareness literature. DIG THEM OUT BY HAND. If this fails buy a guinea pig to eat them.

  7. go to the hardware store and ask for, total vegetation killer

  8. You must use it as directed. If you use it too concentrated then the leaves die before they have a chance to carry the poison down to the roots. It also takes up to three weeks to work so maybe your being a bit impatient. There is nothing better than glyphosate.

  9. OK guys, lets get something straight.  Round-up does not kill frogs, or anything else, if used as directed.  It works by inhibiting production of an enzyme which is present in plants, but in no other living organism, and is rendered inactive on contact with soil.  It leaves no toxins whatsoever.  It is, I think, the only herbicide registered for use in watercourses, where it is often necessary to remove invasive alien plants and allow natural ecosystems to recover.

Diquat and paraquat are (a) far more dangerous and (b) will only kill the top growth.  Annual weeds will die, perennials will return.

Digging out bindweed is almost impossible.  Every little bit of root left in the soil will turn into a new plant.

You need to wait until bindweed is flowering, and then hit it with Round-up.  You may need to do this more than once, i.e. over a few years, but eventually it will go.  If this seems like too long a time to wait, then you can do as I'm doing, and just hit it every time its head appears above the ground.  ( I have a major bindwwed problem in my own garden.)

Don't use it at above recommended strength.  There is no point, as it will inhibit take-up by the plant.

Please take no notice of ignorant souls who don't actually know what they're talking about, and just like to sit in judgement.

Oh and, by the way, don't take everything Wikipedia says as gospel.  I think that, at the very least, their Round-up entry may need updating.  As a professional gardener, I use Round-up Pro Biactive, and right now I'm staring at the published recommendations for use in aquatic areas.

  10. It's expensive but it works ,,gasoline

  11. PDQ available from munro, available under pa1 license only, so get someone in to spray for you.
