Next couple weeks im gonna be buying a remington 700 VTR .308 I am still debating what Leupold scope to pick, my choices are VX-7 and VX-L... and other ones i am unsure of that i need a reviews on:

The Leupold prismatic scope- http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/,

The Leupold Mark 4- http://www.leupold.com/hunting-and-shooting/products/scopes/

Please tell me if those would go well if the firearm i have chosen, i need advice on what would be the best scope choice.

  1. Leupold is a respected, high quality scope maker. You can only go wrong if you pick a scope that doesn't offer the features you will really use.

Scopes are often chosen cosmetically to match the rifle, but the type of hunting you will do choses the scope. A larger caliber rifle that will be used on deer, elk, antelope, etc., at longer ranges can use more of what a 3X9 variable can do.

A smaller cartridge, or one used in heavy woods, would be better suited with a 3 or 4X straight power scope.

The best scope choice is the one that matches the conditions and ranges you have to hunt. I've used a no-power Aimpoint, iron sights, and a 3X9 in heavy woods. They will all work. If I was going for antelope or elk, the 3X9 might be the only choice for longe range accuracy.

The scope makers outline which features you need for your kind of hunting. Following their suggestion will generally get you what you need.

  2. I have looked at both of these scopes and for the olife of me, I cannot tell why the VX-7 costs twice as much as the VX-L.  the VX-L is such a good scope that I am not sure that you would realize as much benefit as the diffference in price.  I'd say go with the VX-L.  You are not going to go wrong with any Leupold.

  3. If you can afford it get the MK 4. But then you wouldn't be getting the cheap 700 VTR you should be looking into the M24 (700 Army/Police Precision Rifle). Get a rifle worthy of that scope.

  4. Give Nikon scopes a try ,they are as good and cheaper . I have used both . Just trying to help, good luck

  5. Before buying look at the Burris Brand Scopes.* They have a lifetime warranty.* Great quality, reasonably priced scopes.*
