ok, for my XC practice today we ran hills and ledges. Basically we jogged to the highway, and found those really steep hill son the side of the road, and ran up and down those 10 times. We then went to the underpass and ran up the concrete hill, which is 2 times bigger, steeper, and slippery. We ran those 5 times. I was wasted at the end. Any tips on being able to do those "slopes" with less energy, but more output? I ask this because right after we have a 1.3 mile jog back to school. Help me please!

  1. I love running hills and i do them everyday. What you need to do is first, dont look at the top, that kills me, just focus on your next step and keep mentally strong. take strides that arent too short because if you are taking short strides then you are taking more steps and it wastes energy. I always try to run up hills as fast as I run on a flat part and that keeps me going. Keep breathing and every once in a while just check how far you are so you dont trip or anything but keep your head down and keep running up. use your arms to propel you up the hill. hope i helped.

  2. Its not the best advice best it helps in some ways....when running up a hill run on your toes. Not exactly your toes, toes but you know where I'm coming from :]

  3. Take smaller strides up the hill, and pump those arms like crazy going up, it'll help. Make sure you're breathing. On the down hill, jog/walk  down with your hands over your head and catch your breath. Hope this helps.
