I need to add a decimal to a number in Excel, but it keeps rounding the number. How do I stop this?

  1. Click on that cell, right click edit.  Go in and edit the format to accounting with 2 decial places.  This should work.


  2. Hightlight it...Top of the screen...format...then Cells...then switch to "Number"...choose your decimal places...have fun!  :-)

  3. you put  ( ' ) an apostrophe before the figures..

The default setting in excel is 'general' and doesn't provide decimal points.  If you right click on a highlighted cell or group of cells and select format you'll see quite a few different options.  Depending on your need, you could select 'number' or 'accounting'.  Just choose the right option for how you are using the data as it could mess it up more.

  5. Right click on the cell and choose 'format cells'.  Go to the number tab.  There is a setting for how many decimal places to allow there--increase it and you should be fine.
