im auditioning for dance team and everyone tells me im technically correct but i need to work on my stage presence. My teacher tells me i need more style and i look too sweet and immature when i dance and sometimes a little awkward. i also need to work on my facial exspressions because ive been told that i need to change up my smile, but when i try to i just look retarded. how can i also show confidence and make people want to look at me when i dance??

  1. I was on the dance team. Well my experience was a bad one. I am never doing it again. When I auditioned I didn't smile or anything. I just focused at one spot. Try your hardest make, sure you are tight. Point your toes, and make sure you Dont your arms flap every where. If you are really worried about your facial expressions just think about something funny, smile at that while you are auditioning.  The judges can tell a good dancer from a bad one. There was this one girl who was amazing but she didn't control her movements. So make sure you control all your movements. You will do great.!! I wish you the best of luck!!! ")

  2. The best advice I ever received from my dancer teacher about performance was ...imagine your boyfriend/heartthrob/ideal, etc, is sitting in the front row. You have a one-off chance to impress them!

Another way is to psyche yourself up by listening to funky music, or watching some cool dance videos just before you do your thing, and just keep those images in your mind as you go on stage.  Challenge the audience - make them wanna dance with you!

  3. what you should do is stand in front of your mirror with your song playing and smile and show expression in the mirror while looking at yourself, this way you won't feel silly or idiotic while you do your dance in front of people, because you know how it looks already.  this will make you feel less on-the-spot and "technically correct" people usually want everything to be well-rehearsed.  i shope this helps you, good luck! =]

  4. the best thing i can suggest is to out there and 'nail it!'. if you believe that you can then you will and believe that you look fantastic! stage presentation has a lot to do with how you see yourself as a dancer. if you are positive and confident with what you are doing and who you are then that will be seen by the audience and you will look fab. if you are doubtful of your ability as a dancer or whether you can do this then it will show on your face and the audience will be able to see your nervousness and lack of confidence. just go out there and smile, be brave and ignore everyone out there watching cause when you're on stage its just you... you, the music and your own little world. happy dancing and good luck! =)

  5. I'm a competitive dancer and i'm always being told no matter what you do smile and look like your having a good time, cuz you are arent you any ways try adding your own pizazz and use different facial expression that will catch peoples eyes!
