I am not stiff as a board, but I am not the most flexible person either. I cannot kick much above waist level and I know its due to my inflexibility, and possibly technique, that is why I have considered taking Yoga before I take up Martial arts. I am very healthy person and I am also bodybuilder, I love to workout. How long before you think I can be flexible enough to join a dojo??? I want to compete in what ever martial arts I take up, and flexibility must be very important. any tips would be great. TY :)

  1. no they help u w/ that and over time ur flexbility will develop greatly

  2. your good to go now. no one is as flexible as they want to be when they first start you build it over time through training

  3. no they teach you those

  4. If you were as flexible as you needed to be, knew how to punch and kick as well as you needed to, etc, they would just hand you a black belt when you started.

Everyone is a beginner their first day.

  5. No, you don't. Part of the warm-up includes stretching.

  6. just go to the dojo and start training oyu dont have to kick high and you will get more flexable and be able to kick higher after you start training anyway.

  7. they teach u stretches in ur dojo. the best option would b just join the dojo

  8. Well i don't do martial arts but i am a competitive gymnast and flexibility is very important to what i do.  If you have ever used a athletic rubber band that is a great start.  Flexibility does not happen over night.  it takes persistence and correct and safe technique.  Start with a routine.  Start from the bottom and work your way up.  If you don't have a rubber band that is ok.  Make sure you are warm and you are not over doing any stretch.  NEVER BOUNCE WHILE STRETCHING!  it is frustrating first but start out small and work your way up.  Here is a good couple websites to help you get an idea on what to do. ( because i can picture stretches in my head but its hard to communicate to someone with out showing them)

here is a website that is targeted to martial arts:
