I am just starting to run and be more active after a quite a bit of time being inactive, bordering on sedentary. Does anyone know of a good way to ease myself into running, I have been trying a walk three minutes, run two minutes program, but am not sure if I should be doing something with incline and speed and all that. I am using a treadmill. I work best with a weekly program that I could follow for a few months, does anyone know of anything that could help?

  1. Running on a treadmill is a great way to get exercise, and yes a program that mixes running with walking is an ideal way of easing into running.  Check out the couch to 5K running program at http://www.coolrunning.com that should give you the direction and program you are looking for.

  2. You have the right idea. run/walk workout is perfect to ease into it

  3. I'm in the same situation as you are. I use to run but then stopped, had a knee injury that put me not running and haven't run for 6 years. But I started back up about 2 months ago. I have found the couch to 5k program is great for me. I've loaded it on my ipod and use it as motivational work. I think you can find it at coolrunning. But I highly suggest it since it eases you into the running and you gradually build up. I'm taking the program a bit slower than it's normally laid out [i run each "week" for 2 weeks to give me more time to adjust to the distance changes and give my knee plenty of time to adjust to the activity again]

If you have any other questions just let me know.

    Good luck!
