The DVD recorder has an HDMI outlet as does the DVR, but if I hook them up to each other how do I view the material on the TV? Also if I spend the money to buy blank Blu-Ray DVD's will the DVD recorder burn in HD?

  1. Yes, you can record HD as long as your DVD recorder will allow HD recording.  You'd need to connect the cabling from the HD DVR to the DVD recorder, and then from the DVD recorder to the TV.  You can buy blank HD DVD's and record them as long as the DVD recorder is HD.  Also of course be sure you use HD cabling all the way.

  2. If you don't have an HD-DVD burner, then you can't...  Blank Blu-Rays will work only with a Blu-Ray drive that is capable of writing to disc.  So far, the only Blu-Ray burning drives I know of are for PCs and cost >$400.  (Google Blu-Ray burner).  HD-DVD drives are significantly cheaper.

Then you have to deal with the problems of whether the DVR will allow you to burn the HD video...  They likely have copy protection to keep you from doing that.

    Sorry :'(
