My basement is musky and I want to get rid of that smell. What is a good brand? Not top of the line because I can't afford that but good.

What is this talk about a pump and hose? I don't want to run a hose through my basement. Do I have to get one with a hose?

  1. they all drain into a bucket but a lot of them have a hose hook up so you do not have to empty the bucket

  2. A humidifier is a good idea.  It definately takes the smell out of our basement! And that heavy feel in the air too.  In fact, I've always used one in each one of my houses I've owned during the Spring and Summer.  Brand really doesn't matter, all of em do the job. Expect to pay at least $200.   All come with an interior bucket, which the dehumidifier stops working when it is full, and you need to take out the bucket and empty the water. Then when you replace the empty bucket, the dehumidifier turns back on.  If you don't want to use the bucket inside the unit, you can directly empty the water right into a floor drain (the hose comes with the unit too).  That way you don't have to empty the bucket when it becomes full.  Its what ever you prefer.   I like to use the bucket because I like to keep track of how much water is collected in x amount of time.  Definately get one!  You will not regret it!
