Anything with Hannah Montana on it. A good book. They still like to color at this age. Or craft projects - 9 year old girls love craft projects.

toysrus.com is where i get all of my gift ideas...they have options for age appropriate gift ideas and all that good stuff...and you can either go to the store and pick the gift up or have them mail it to you which usually arrives about a week after ordering...good luck choosing!!!

Ask her mom if she likes to read and who her favorite author is. Or send her a subscription to an appropriate magizine. Age appropriate of course. If she likes animals, get a mag. subscrip. for that. A gift that she will get every month. Sounds boring to some, but its different .

They like school supplies in bright colors.  Notebooks, paper markers etc.  Lisa Frank products are popular.  Also crafts that they can make.

Since it's a present, you might get her some of the fancy color-changing or blending markers that she wouldn't get every day.

My daughter loves to give her friends a beach bag (you can find them at Walmart for $5-$10) with a beach towel and pool toy in it for spring or summer birthdays.  This is always a hit with her friends.

Webkinz or anything Hannah Montanna. Limeted Too has lots of this kind of stuff and is the perfect store for this age group. You can also try cute giving her a few cute, funky keychains. They have lots of varieties of these at Claire's, and they are so adorable that even I consider buying some ! Little girls this age like cool little trinkets or toys that nobody else has.

I also have a few suggestions about what NOT to get her. Crafts are a bad idea, because she will probably never even touch them after she recieves them and will not take the initiatice to sit down and do them. Clothes and accesories aren't a good idea either, because you will never know whther or not she will like them, and her own mother can get her clothes anyday. Most girls that age aren't crazy in to clothes yet! Good luck.

for a young girl in this age group i found a magazine subscription to be a very well received gift.

the thought of providing reading material which can later be discussed is much more satisfying than a dvd.

the idea of a "new" magazine every single month! wowo, something for her every month or so and its not even her birthday.

the two magazines that we have given and received w/nothing but good results were:

the national goegraphic "world" for kids (i think it used to be called "kids" but was changed to "world"-check the national geo site)-this is a science and discovery magazine written to this age group w/wonderful pix and informative articles.

the "american girl magazine"-started as a catalog to supplement their very successful doll collection, the magazine has turned into a wholesome, positive, engaging monthly read for my two daughters. there's alittle bit of history in each issue, some word games, some stories. we have found it to be a winner.

i just thoght of a 3rd magazine: the classic "scholastic"-i think that was it's name which also was filled w/puzzles, stories, and other good stuff.

I have a 9 year old grand-daughter, she likes gel makers she enjoyes making scrap books of friends and family. and she enjoys  reading novels but i won't buy a novel for a birthday gift.And she likes muilt-colored paper,and make-up. and purses. Have a nice day.

I would have a long talk to anyone who gave my 9 year old make-up (see above) ....LOL.

A gift card to a book/record store would be nice. That way she can pick what she would like and you won't get a duplicate. Just tell her she can not buy a Jonas Brothers CD because it will scar her ability to listen to good music for life.

I agree....ANYTHING Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Suite Life of Zach and Cody....things like that, my daughter is also really into Chronicles of Narnia and those kind of chapter books. But I must say, her favorite present she ever got at a birthday party was a pass for a movie that she would go to with the present giver and her mom (with snacks included)

I would say that you cant go wrong with Arts and Crafts projects! My nieces are 4 and 8 and they LOVE crafts and have for a long time.
