I love the designs by J.Crew, Boden, and Gap.... but, they're expensive. I'm looking for something appropriate for elementary school, reasonably priced, and of good quality that will last me for more than a season.

Do you have any suggestions?

  1. consult a teacher who got a very good name .

  2. Wal-Mart and Target!   I don't splurge on my "teaching clothes" and I keep them just as that, my "work wardrobe". Then I save the Kohls, Ann Loft, Banana Republic clothes for "me" time when I go out with friends and husband. It all started when I would go on a date with my husband and he would call me "teacher" because I was wearing clothes I wore to school.  Now I keep the work and fun clothes separate.  The kids could care less what you wear, but you should care enough to look nice and professional and you don't have to spend lots of money doing so!  Heck, we don't make enough money as educators to splurge on teaching clothes!  There are lots of cute cheap clothes out there. As far as quality, you're going to get those clothes messed up anyway and will want to change them up after a year.  Also, some Salvation Army stores have 1/2 price clothing days each week.  I've gotten great name brand clothes each Tuesday at my local thrift store.  One more thing....here's what has worked for me for the last few years...I buy up about 2 weeks of clothes for school, and a few extras to mix and match.  That way I only have to do laundry once every 2 weeks!  Good luck!

  3. Try metrostyle.com

    or Bannana Republic.

  4. Try Kohls, Old Navy, Marshalls, or TJ Maxx.

  5. This will be my 2nd year teaching.  It took me a few shopping trip to get the "teaching clothes" wardrobe in tact.  For starters, I went to Express and bought 2-3 pairs of nice dress pants.  Then, you can get all kinds of cute shirts from Kohls.  Good luck!

  6. After 31 years of teaching let me offer a couple of suggestions...be comfortable and able to move without restriction or exposure.  In the dressing room when you try on an outfit, move like you will in the classroom...sit, bend over, reach, lean....to see how the clothing responds.  Next, wear comfortable shoes.  This is a must!

    Have a good year!

  7. I buy most of my "teaching" clothes at Ann Taylor or Anne Taylor LOFT. They have great, appropriate clothes that really last. I try to look at the sales racks and go to the outlet stores to keep costs down. Also, LOFT has an email list that sends out alerts when they're having sales both online and in the stores.

  8. The above stores are a good choice.  Remember to keep your choice interchangeable!!  I try to keep my bottom half to colors that go with anything, like black, tan, blue, gray, (anything neutral) and put the color on top.  Mix it up.  Don't spend a lot of money on clothes - the kids just don't care that much!

  9. Try Kohls.  It will be conservative and comfortable.  Also, don't skimp on buying comfortable shoes.  With elementary, you will be on your feet alot.
