I need to change my IP, ive tried ipconfig/renew and all that and it wont change! please help thanks!?

  1. As you've no doubt noticed its getting harder to change your IP at will. But the oldest methods are still the best.

    If your going on holiday or just not using your PC for say 48+ hours then pull the power for your modem so it has no connection to your ISP at all. After 48+ hours plug everything back in and "reset" your modem (dont just turn it on). With a bit of luck your IP should have changed, if not then it might take a bit longer next time you try.


  2. It's a lost cause.

    ISP's are starting to phase out IP renewing by power cycling your modem. Usually, if you completely disconnect from your ISP's network, and then reconnect, they'll just assign you the same IP you had before.

    Too many people have started doing this, and it's pretty taxing on your ISP's DHCP servers.
