I need to concentrate on myself for better performance, says English player Jenny Wallwork
England’s Mixed Doubles shuttler, Jenny Wallwork, wants to remain focused to get a good result in the upcoming home championship of All England Open Premier Super Series, which will be held in Birmingham, from March 6-11.
Wallwork along with her partner Nathan Robertson won the silver medal at 2010 Commonwealth Games and has been getting reasonable results in many other tournaments last year.
However, the Wallwork and Robertson failed to win any Super Series tournament in last year and slipped down to number 18 in Mixed Doubles world standings.
Wallwork and Robertson need elevation in their game and they are desperately looking for better results in the upcoming tournament as they need ranking points to keep their hopes alive for qualifying in the 2012 Olympic Games.
There is a tough competition between Wallwork – Robertson and another couple, Chris Adcock – Imogen Bankier, for getting a spot in Olympic Games.
Adcock and Bankier are currently World Number 14 and are in better position to qualify for the mega event. But they have got a tough draw as they will face the World Number One Chinese couple of Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei in the opening round of the tournament.
On the other hand, Wallwork and Robertson have got a somewhat easy draw as they will not compete against any pair from the top four positions until the quarter-final of the tournament.
Wallwork said, "Nathan's experience has been invaluable. When the qualifying period started I felt the need to do well at every tournament and if I didn't it felt like the end of the world to me. I just need to concentrate on myself rather than anyone else.”
While talking about last year’s superb performance of Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier in the World Championships, Wallwork said that anyone can beat to any opponent on a given day and that she with her partner will also deliver good performance.
She said, "Any pair can beat any other pair on their day. Chris and Imogen played fantastically at last year's world's, beat some of the top pairs and won a medal and we hope we can do the same."
All England Open is less than two weeks away and Wallwork is ready to take the challenge of getting good results in this prestigious championship.
