I need to connect a retro telephone?

i have just aquired a 1970s telephone its plug-in wont connect or work on my current line ,how do i fix it to make it work grateful for any suggestions

  1. Im pretty sure those phones are obsolete, and can not be used anymore, I may be wrong.  

    You might try getting some telephone wiring diagrams, and wire the phone to a new phone wire, but make sure you know what you are doing, you wouldnt want to short out your entire house.


  2. It depends on what kind of phone it is and what telephone service you have.  Some older phones will not work on VoIP lines.

    I am guessing you are trying to connect a rotary dial telephone.  On the back of the phone behind the handset receiver cradle there should be a manufacturers name (i.e. Western Electric; ITT; Automatic Electric etc).  Then on the bottom of the phone there should be some numbers (i.e. 500 C/D and usually a manufacture date).

    Is the plug on the phone a modular plug or is it a larger four pronged plug or is it just spade ended?
