to convert 6000 kg to mg, 6000 can be written as 6x10^3. And mg is x10^-3. Would I just add the absolute values of both exponents. So 6000kg converted into mg is 6x10^6?

  1. no, 6000 kg is 6,000,000 grams which is 6,000,000,000 mg

  2. well 1kg = 1000 gram, and 1 gram = 1000 centigram, and 1 centigram = 1000milligrams. add all of these zero to your 6000 kg, then you get the result.

so how many zeros do you have here?.

  3. Yeah, you could do that - better to just start from the smallest multiple and work up (make miligram 10^0, gram 10^3, kilogram 10^3 * gram ...)

    It's 6x10^9 though, since 6000Kg is the same as 6Mg (mega-grams).

  4. Agree.  Multiply by 1,000.
