I need to convince my dad to let us get a DVR tivo thing. Help?

I have a dvr from my cable company.  I use it all the time.  I can record shows and watch them and fast forward the commercials.  You can tell him that it will save money.  If you record movies on the dvr instead of spending all of the money at the theater, it will really save money.  A family going to the movies is very expensive.  Also if you buy tv series on dvd, it will save you money too.  A series on dvd is about $50, but you can record it for free.  It will also save you money on movie rentals and no late fees.  I have comcast cable and I do not think I had to put out any money up front for the dvd player, but it bills my account $6 a month.  You may want to ask the cable company if they have something like that.
