  1. Spanakopita, aka spinach pie using phyllo dough very easy and you can make little personal appetizer size ones instead of a big dish.There is always a greek salad which many will eat as a meal with grape leaves.Good luck

  2. I think you should make Baklava, it is very nice and surprisingly easy to make.

    The complete recipe is here:

  3. make yiros i think that is greek plus it tastes good. :)

  4. Easy Greek Baked Sardines (Psari Riyanato) Recipe

    Serves/Makes: 4

    Ingredients:

        * 12 to 16 fresh sardines (approximately 1 1/2 pounds)

        * Lemon juice

        * Olive oil

        * Chopped oregano

        * Salt

    How to cook:

        * Place sardines in a shallow dish, moisten with lemon juice and olive oil, add chopped oregano and salt.

        * Bake at 400°F / 200°C for 5 minutes, basting once.

  5. greeks LOVE their soups... theres lentil soup (fakes)

    theres bean soup (fasolada)

    theres egg and lemon soup... the list goes on,

    chic pea soup...

    chicken soup  or try

    stuffed tomatoes, easier then it sounds and ready well under 60 minutes.

  6. Moussaka, it is like lasagna but with eggplants instead of flat rectangular pasta sheets.

  7. Stuffed tomatoes, greek soups, gyros, moussaka etc. need much more than an 60min to be completed. Spanakopita and baklavas could be completed in an hour but you need to find or make phyllo (greek pastry). I'd propose you something easier: a greek omelet called either "kayanas" or "strapatsada" or just "avga me tomates" (eggs with tomatoes). It has many names cause it's being made in many places in Greece. For example, in my father's village it's called "kayanas", while in my mother's village "avga me tomates".

    So, you need eggs, tomatoes, onions, olive oil, salt and pepper. First of all, you need to make the tomatoe sause. Chop 1 onion into small pieces. Put a pan on fire and let the 5 table spoons of olive oil get warm (not for too long). Then put the chopped onion into the pan and let it become "transparent" (do not fry it too much, but just to make "smoother"). Then chop or blend 4 little tomatoes (for sause) or 2 middle tomatoes and add them into the pan. Then add a little water, salt and pepper and let the sauce to boil until it consumes the majority of its liquids. When it is ready, add two eggs, after mixing them. Don't forget to stir. In a few minutes your food is ready. You can accompany it with feta cheese or fried potatoes.

    Take a look at this site that represents a version of "kayanas":

    It is in greek, but it has many photos. The guy cooking has ommited the onion, but he has added some oregano. Also, he has put more eggs for 2 middle tomatoes. It's a version though. My version is the one from my mother's village. In my father's village people add in the mixture chopped pork meat preserved in salt or sausage, but it is not so light. Others add also green peppers etc. The main and common ingredients are olive oil, tomatoes, eggs, salt and pepper.
