  1. read a story to them about a vegetable (a carrot or something) then help them plant seeds of that vegtable.  You can tell them about how plants grow and what they need to grow.  I'm sure the kids can help you with answering those questions (what do plants need to grow? water, sunlight, etc.)  It is also very engaging and they'll be thrilled when the plants begin to sprout.

  2. if you have plenty of time. give every child a ziplock bag with their name written on it. wet a paper towel, fold in so it will fit in the bag. place plant seeds on it. put it in the bag and set it in a flat sunny place. teach them how sunlight affects the growth.

then let them take the plants home.

  3. You could have them try to group items based on something. Maybe have pieces of cloth that are in different shapes and different textures and have them decide which ones would be in a group together and why they think so. It would be up to the student to decide and there are no right or wrong answers.

They may put the soft cloth in one category and the rough in another. Or they may put the squares in one group and the triangles in another. Their chose, but it will have them practicing classification at a very basic level.

  4. Growing grass in a cup is fun, it's a on going project, goving something the kids to look forward to each day, talk about gardening, planting, etc.  Let them fill the cup w/dirt, plant the seeds, water, etc.  Have fun!

  5. do a dinosaure project. ex. get plastic dinosaures and bury them in some sand and then have the kids dig up the dinosaures.

  6. If you aren't afraid to get messy try mixing cornstarch and water and the kids will play with it forever!!!

  7. I don't know if it would be considered a science project, but it would show how oil and water won't mix(or separate when mixed). You get a clean clear plastic soda bottle, baby oil, food coloring and water.Fill the bottle half way with water, add a couple of drops of food coloring, then fill bottle almost to top with baby oil.Place the cap on tightly, you can shake it up and they can see how it separates,or just sway it back and forth to see how they move together.Mix other liquids in a separate bottle to compare.I made these with my children when they were little and they loved them,it's even easy to make one for each child.good luck I hope this helped

  8. This is really cool!

    Okay what you need is:

One liter of soda (any kind)

    Mentos

    An Outdoor Space

An Apron Or Something Else That You Don't Mind Getting Dirty

Okay take the kids outside then you put the mentos in the coke. Then you shake it up really hard. Get the kids to stand back a bit. Then you open the soda. It wil be a geyser! It will shoot into the air! Make sure you jump back after opening!

    The kids would love this!

Or you can check out these optical illusion webpages!

    I hope this helps!

  9. show how gravity works hold a ball in the air and ask what will happen if it drops obveously it will fall then explain it falls b/c of gravity

  10. Something fun for 3's and 4's is to do a sink or float activity.

Have different fruits and vegetables on hand. ask them which they think will float and which will sink.  Be sure to have a few blueberries and a big apple.  The apple will float and the blueberries will sink.  You can then open up the discussion on why the items floated or sank.  Chart their answers and display on your classroom wall.

  11. WHAT YOU NEED

PLAY DOUGH OR FUNCLAY-MAKE A VOLCANO

BAKING SODA AS A QUARTER SIZE AMOUNT INSIDE EACH VOLCANO

ADD A LITTLE VINEGAR AND WATCH THE "VOLCANO EXPOLDE" (MINIMAL MESS AND KIDS LOVE IT!)

  12. Water and ice

make a few ice cubes at home bring them with you even color them for fun if you like.

Show them that this is frozen water ask them what happens if they can't figure it out. get a hot plate or just warm water and put the ice in a bag and let them watch it melt. while you do that ask them why and tell them what happens.

OR i love this one get a few flowers this is a 2 day project but it keeps them in suspense like carnation something cheap and try to get them white. put a few in as many diff rent cups you want tell them to make a color out of food coloring you help them put the drops in and then when ask them what they think will happen this teaches them about how the water absorbers into the plant so it can grow and become a beautiful flower. Then the next day you come in and the flower some what will be a slightly diff rent color try these at home before you do them in the class.

You can do the what floats or sinks that's also fun.

  13. (1) grow beansprouts with bean, cottons and tray! (to introduce plants)

    (2) read about insects and plan a afternoon at the playground/gardens to spot common insects! (to introduce living things)

    (3) try mix-and-match colours. show that when one color is mixed with another, it changes! (to introduce changes)

    (4) use magnifying glass to light up a matchstick! (to introduce concept of heat/light)

    (5) use a weighing machine and balance different objects of various weight!(to introduce concept of measurements)

    most importantly, haf lotsa fun!
