libraries are always looking for restockers

tourism departments welcome volunteer greeters

schools love to have volunteers come sign up for reading groups and breakfast buddies

nursing homes enjoy have visitors who will read books, sing songs, play musical instruments.

any of these things would be a wonderful help to the community and human interaction gives you a great way to get references and recommendations as well.
