I need to convert VOP, IFO, and BUP files into something that can be edited on Vegas 6. Help?

  1. You need to rip the video using something like http://handbrake.fr/

    Be aware that DVD based camcorders provide the WORST available video quality. Even ripping commercial videos doe not provide very good quality. The VOB/VOP files are highly compressed. When you start with lots of compression, anything downstream in the process will not be very good.

    The trick is to start with the LEAST amount of compression - that way, downstream in the editing process, you can control how good or bad the video quality is...


  2. You should be able to drop the .vob files directly onto the timeline - the .bup and .ifo files don't contain video.

    With all due respect to Bill G, don't use handbrake!  That's going to convert your MPEG-2 files to MPEG-4, complete with some loss of quality.  Vegas 6 can edit MPEG-2 reasonably well, but MPEG-4 can cause problems.  I was assuming you'd already ripped your DVD, but if you haven't, use something like DVDDecrypter or DVDFab
